New Qld premier remains tight-lipped over future of A-G Yvette D’Ath
Queensland’s new premier has remained tight-lipped on whether Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath will stay in her role, as ministers were expected to be briefed on their portfolios over the weekend ahead of their swearing-in on Monday.
Steven Miles was sworn in as premier on Friday where he used his first speech to make commitments to boost the state’s climate action plans, tackle youth crime, and manage other government priorities, including cost of living.

Miles told reporters on Saturday morning he and now Deputy Premier Cameron Dick would meet with ministers over the weekend to speak with them about their roles.
“We have five new fresh faces and that will mean that we need to make some changes to the ministry and they’re the kinds of decisions we’ll be making today, tomorrow, in time for Monday when they will be sworn in,” he said.
The five “fresh faces” are Nikki Boyd, Bart Mellish, Lance McCallum, Michael Healy, and Charis Mullen.
Ali King, Shane King, Jimmy Sullivan, Jennifer Howard, and Corrine McMillan will also be elevated from the backbench.
Miles said his government were conscious of not “unduly disrupting” public servants with the shuffling of ministers and changes.
“That’s the balancing act for us to consider here, the competing tensions that we’ll need to consider,” he said.
But when questioned over the future of D’Ath’s role as Attorney General, Miles remained tight-lipped. Earlier this year, D’Ath was shifted out of the heavily scrutinised health portfolio and made Attorney-General during a reshuffle.
