North Melbourne skipper Jy Simpkin has expressed complete joy at leading his side to their first win of 2024.

“That was an absolute joy,” Simpkin told Fox Footy post game.

“The boys have worked so hard but had no rewards on the field. Today the boys grit their teeth and the Eagles kicked four or five goals and hit the front but the ability of the boys to just fight and never give up – that was an awesome win.”

When asked if he thought the holding the ball decision was right, Simpkin said “absolutely” with a smile on his face.

“The heart was going a bit – I haven’t been in that situation too often,” Simpkin said.

“I just went back, went through my routine and lucky enough it went straight through the middle.

“I’m just pumped for George and the other young guys. They all work so hard and now they have their first win. I can’t wait to get around them.”
