Australia v England scores, results, start time, wickets, teams, how to watch

Here we go. It’s 3pm on a stinking hot Friday in December. If you’re not downing tools for the sweet, sweet embrace of Test cricket, take a good hard look at yourself.

Players are out in the middle, it’s a sold-out Gabba, and Joe Root is taking strike on 135 with Brendan Doggett to bowl our first over of the second day.

First ball: Short from Doggett to start. Up around Root’s eyes outside off and he swipes a pull shot down to the man at square leg.

Second ball: Not as much bounce with the follow-up. Root swings around on a pull down to fine leg for a single.

Third ball: Banged in again to Jofra Archer. He ducks underneath it easily.

Fourth ball: Another short ball, only up to Archer’s hip, he pulls it to the man in the deep for a single.

Fifth ball: You guessed it, short again. Down leg that one and Root is inside it, hooking comfortably down to fine leg for another run.

Sixth ball: That had a bit more promise, Archer hooked that one sight unseen. Managed to keep it down and take the single in the deep, but his eyes did not follow that ball then.

Mitchell Starc resumes from the other end to Archer.

England 9-329 Root 137*, Archer 34* leads by 329 runs
