Master Lock Comanche the favourite, weather forecast, start time, results, how to watch

Christian Beck has dialled in from LawConnect off the coast of Tasmania. He said the yacht’s sail is faring well despite the rips.

“It’s actually holding up,” he said, even though at one point the breakages had cast doubt on the crew’s ability to finish the race.

Beck said he was surprised to hear 33 yachts had retired but added: “We thought about it for a while too, to be honest.”

Despite spending most of the day beside Master Lock Comanche and HSK Scallywag 100, Beck said the conditions were starting to widen the competition.

“It’s starting to spread out a bit now,” he said. “We’re starting to get the winds that Comanche wanted.”

Regardless, he’ll be happy to see the finish line having been seasick at various times during the trip, including today on calmer seas.

And on whether there will be beer and champagne on an empty stomach

“I’ll be taking that slowly I think, I’ll see how I go,” he said.
