Donald Trump’s pick to be the new ambassador to Australia has called South Australia’s capital “Adeline” in an awkward Aussie fail.

It was all the more surprising because David Brant did manage to say Adelaide correctly just minutes before

But all will be forgiven in Canberra because at his confirmation hearing on Wednesday, US time, Mr Brant said the AUKUS pact was “full steam ahead”.

Mr Trump has revelled after primary elections saw candidates fiercely loyal to him triumph over Republican stalwarts with even the merest scepticism of his agenda.

He said “100 per cent” of his endorsements had prevailed.

It was a remarkable demonstration of Mr Trump’s iron like grip on the party he pushed his way into.

Mr Trump’s communications director said the losing candidates had “f**ed around, found out”.

The US President has been vague about whether he will launch strikes on Iran after postponing them earlier in the week.

Meanwhile, Xi Jinping has said a mere three words that could be read as a veiled dig at the US under Donald Trump.
