With the 2026 FIFA World Cup beginning on June 12 (AEST), the squads for the 48 competing nations are being revealed. Follow here for every all the latest news and announcements as they happen.
United States coach Mauricio Pochettino named Giovanni Reyna in his 26-strong for the World Cup on Tuesday, four years after the midfielder was almost sent home from the 2022 tournament in Qatar following a bust-up with former coach Gregg Berhalter.
Borussia Monchengladbach attacking midfielder Reyna appeared as a substitute in the USA’s friendly defeats to Belgium and Portugal in March after impressing Pochettino during last November’s international window.

Reyna has played only a handful of games at club level since the turn of the year, making only eight appearances in the Bundesliga as a substitute for Monchengladbach.
However the 23-year-old remains one of the most technically gifted attacking players available to Pochettino as the Argentine coach prepares for the USA’s World Cup Group D opener against Paraguay in Los Angeles on June 12.
Reyna was at the center of an explosive controversy in Doha four years ago, when it emerged after the tournament he had almost been kicked out of the camp by then coach Berhalter over his attitude in training.
That in turn led to Reyna’s mother informing US Soccer of a physical altercation in 1991 between Berhalter and his then girlfriend, and now wife, which triggered an investigation by US Soccer.
Pochettino’s squad was announced at a roster reveal event in New York on Tuesday.
“I think we were seeing, analyzing, assessing all the situations and we decided the 26 players of the roster,” Pochettino told a briefing Tuesday.

He added that he was seeking the “best balance in the 26” picks. The US coach declined to comment on high-profile figures like Lyon’s Tanner Tessmann who were left out of the roster while relying heavily on the likes of Tyler Adams.
“I think we cannot talk about the players that are not in the roster, because it’s very respectful to the players that made the roster,” he said.
“I know what it means to be out of the roster, in 1994, the World Cup in the US I was out… finally I made the roster. That is why I know it’s so painful, but that is my job.” Little suspense surrounded the event, with details of Pochettino’s selection leaking out in US media reports for several days leading up to Tuesday’s formal announcement.
As expected, Europe-based players make up the bulk of Pochettino’s squad with the likes of AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic, Juventus’s Weston McKennie and Monaco’s Folarin Balogun all included alongside English Premier League players Adams (Bournemouth), Brenden Aaronson (Leeds), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace) and Antonee Robinson (Fulham).
Among the Major League Soccer players included in the roster are former coach Berhalter’s son, Sebastian, the Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder.
BRAZIL ICON RECALLED FROM THREE-YEAR EXILE; 43YO NAMED
Brazil superstar Neymar has been handed a dramatic recall to the country’s World Cup squad, returning to the national team after a near three-year absence.
The inclusion of Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances, was the biggest surprise in the 26-man squad named by coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti announced Neymar’s selection at a gala ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, with loud cheers ringing out as the veteran attacker’s call-up was confirmed.
Speculation has raged for months over whether the 34-year-old former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain attacker would force his way back into the national team set-up.
The forward, a veteran of the 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups, had not played for Brazil since suffering knee injury duringa World Cup qualifying game against Uruguay in 2023.
A mixture of injuries and poor form had left him outside the national team set-up, with Ancelotti citing concerns over his fitness after leaving him out of Brazil’s squad for March friendlies against France and Croatia.
However Neymar, who rejoined boyhood club Santos in January after an injury-ravaged stint in Saudi Arabia, has now earned Ancelotti’s stamp of approval.
“We monitored Neymar throughout the year and observed that, in recent times, he has been playing consistently and his physical condition has improved,” Ancelotti said. “We believe he is an important player.” Injuries have restricted Neymar to just 15 appearances in 31 matches since his return to Santos in 2026.
Neymar joins a potent line-up of attackers that includes Barcelona striker Raphinha and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior. However there was no place in the squad for Premier League-based strikers Joao Pedro and Richarlison.
PREMIER LEAGUE STARS, 43-YEAR-OLD EARN SCOTTISH CALL-UPS
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson and Aston Villa captain John McGinn were among the players named on Tuesday by manager Steve Clarke in Scotland’s first World Cup finals squad for 28 years.
The Scots last featured at the showpiece tournament in 1998 and Clarke’s men are looking to break new ground in North America by becoming the first Scotland side to get out of the group stage at a World Cup.
“The magnitude of the event has become more and more clear to me as I’ve travelled across America,” Clarke told reporters in Glasgow after unveiling a 26-man squad.
He added: “I understand the responsibility we’ve got to produce our very best.” Full-back Robertson, 32, will leave Liverpool at the end of the season following a nine-year career at Anfield that has yielded two Premier League titles and a Champions League crown.
McGinn, a 31-year-old midfielder, has been a key figure in a Villa revival that has seen the Birmingham club reach the Europa League final and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Napoli’s 2024/25 Serie A footballer of the year Scott McTominay, as well as club-mate Billy Gilmour and Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson, are all on the plane.
– ‘Resilient’ –
Striker Lawrence Shankland, whose 16 goals and five assists in 29 league outings nearly fired Hearts to the Scottish Premiership title, is also in the squad.
“I’ve got no fears about any of my players leading the line,” said Clarke. “Lawrence and his club have had a fantastic season, obviously it ended in a bit of heartbreak at the weekend.
“In my experience, footballers are very resilient. It will take him a few days and a few conversations. He needs to decompress a little bit now and be ready to have an impact on the World Cup this summer.” Ross Stewart, a striker with English second-tier club Southampton, has been included and there is a place in the 26-man squad for 43-year-old Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
Stewart has been in the international wilderness for four years, with both of his senior Scotland appearances coming in 2022.
But he has scored 11 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions for Southampton this season, including one in the Championship play-off semi-final win against Middlesbrough.
“It’s a good story, Ross,” said Clarke. He was in my squad a few years ago, showed he could come up to this level.
“He’s had a terrible run with injury, but from January onwards he’s hit a rich vein of form.
“He’s shown he can score big goals in big games.” Scotland face Haiti (June 13), Morocco (June 19) and record five-time world champions Brazil (June 24) in Group C.
The first two group games will take place in Massachusetts, with the final fixture in Miami.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR SQUADS TO BE NAMED?
Nations have already submitted provisional squad lists of between 35 and 55 players to FIFA but these are not required to be released to the public.
Each nation’s final 26-player squad must be submitted to FIFA by June 1 and officially announced by June 2, however many national teams have already done so.
