AFL champion Ben Cousins signs deal with Perth breakfast radio show

AFL legend Ben Cousins has signed an exclusive deal with a popular breakfast radio program, expanding his media presence in his home state of Western Australia.

Cousins will make regular appearances on the Pete and Kymba Breakfast show on Mix94.5.

The move, announced by station owner Southern Cross Austereo on Wednesday, adds to his gig as a sports presenter for 7News and his forthcoming appearance on the hit TV show Dancing With the Stars.

Cousins will join hosts Pete Curulli and Kymba Cahill every Wednesday as a part of the “Bensday Wednesday” segment.

The West Coast Eagles premiership player and Brownlow medallist will chat about all things AFL and his Dancing with the Stars journey.

Cousins had appeared intermittently on the program before this year.

Pete and Kymba said Cousins would be a “great addition” to the show’s 2024 team.

“He was already a friend of the show last year but now that he’s signed an actual contract with Mix94.5, we can say that

he’s an official friend of the show,” the pair said.

“Now that’s a whole new level of friendship.”

Cousins said he was “stoked” to be a part of the Pete and Kymba show.

“They’re a great team to work with,” he said.

“I’m sure they’ll keep me on my toes, because you never know what type of scenario they’re going to throw you in.”

The program is part of ASX-listed SCA’s Hit Network, Australia’s biggest radio network broadcasting across metro and regional

markets.

The network targets people aged 25 to 54, skews female and features a mood focused, pop music format alongside local breakfast and national drive shows.

It is home to star personalities including Carrie Bickmore, Brendan Fevola, Nick Cody, Ed Kavalee, Dave Hughes and Erin Molan.

Cousins, 45, played 270 games of AFL for West Coast and Richmond.

His life has been marred with substance abuse problems and at one point he was jailed for stalking the mother of his children, but in recent years he has turned his life around.
