AFL results 2025, GWS Giants vs St Kilda Saints, Round 24
GWS has survived an almighty St Kilda scare on Sunday afternoon, prevailing 15.14 (104) to 14.9 (93) to secure a likely home elimination final.
The Saints led by a singular point at the end of the second and third stanza, but the Giants kicked 4.7 to the Saints’ 4.1 in the final term to cement the result.
Toby Greene took a heroic mark going back with the flight of the ball to stop a last-hurrah St Kilda foray forward, with Darcy Jones shortly after putting the icing on the cake.

Adam Kingsley’s side had to win by roughly 20 goals or more to overtake Collingwood in fourth place and secure a double chance, but the contest was far from a walkover — despite their ultra-fast start.
A career-best five-goal haul from Darcy Wilson fell just short of handing St Kilda a 10th win to finish off their 2025 season. It means this season is the first time this decade the Saints have fallen short of at least 10 wins.
In unfortunate news for the Giants, Stephen Coniglio was subbed out with concussion in the second quarter and is now in serious danger of missing their elimination final in two weekend’s time.
As for the Saints, Mattaes Phillipou’s season ended early after doing down with a calf injury while Rowan Marshall played out the match with a hobble.
GIANTS FINALS IMPLICATIONS
The GWS Giants are locked into their third-straight finals series, and fourth in fifth years — but it didn’t come easy.
St Kilda tested the hosts right until the final siren on Sunday afternoon, as Adam Kingsley’s side trailed by a point at the end of the second and third stanza.
But alas, a Toby Greene-led charge in the final term ensured that they jumped up into the top four, although perhaps only momentarily.
Only a draw between the fifth-placed Brisbane and sixth-placed Hawthorn on Sunday night at the Gabba will see the Giants maintain their current position of fourth on the ladder.
GWS are currently a win ahead of the Hawks, but given their mediocre percentage, a win for them over Brisbane tonight will usurp them in the top four.
As for the Lions, they sit half a game ahead which means any win will lock them into the top four, but a draw will see them miss out on a double chance by the smallest of margins with percentage.
CRUEL BLOW TO GIANTS VETERAN ON EVE OF FINALS
In a sour blow to GWS in the win, veteran midfielder Stephen Coniglio was subbed out during the second quarter with concussion in an injury that could jeopardise his own finals berth.
The 31-year-old tackled rival on-baller Marcus Windhager not long after quarter time by the boundary, but in the process, hit his head on the Saint’s left shoulder.
A groggy Coniglio ran to the bench not long afterwards, before failing his Head Injury Assessment (HIA).
It leaves the 226-gamer racing against the clock to return for the Giants’ elimination final, as AFL concussion protocols prohibit him from returning in less than 12 days from his head knock.
Sunday is considered ‘Day 0’ within the protocols, which were introduced by the AFL as compulsory in 2021, which means he could well miss their first final should he get the wrong side of the AFL’s fixture.
Adam Kingsley’s side will be hopeful of welcoming back all of Jack Buckley, Brent Daniels, Jesse Hogan, Jake Stringer and Josh Kelly from injury for the do-or-die clash.
