Postecoglou, who was sacked by Nottingham Forest earlier in the month, had been among the early favourites to take over Brendan Rodgers at his former club.
But The Scottish Sun reported on Thursday that Postecoglou is instead set to take a break from football.
It has been a rollercoaster year for Postecoglou, who became Australia’s first coach to win a major European title in May after guiding Tottenham to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Despite that historic victory, Postecoglou was later sacked by Spurs in June after what was an otherwise disappointing season for Tottenham in the Premier League.

Postecoglou was then hired as Nottingham Forest’s new manager in early September, only to last 39 days in the job before being replaced by Sean Dyche.
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton said earlier in the week on Sky Sports that Postecoglou would be a “smart appointment” as Rodgers’ permanent replacement.
“He was loved the first time round,” Sutton added.
“His brand of football went down well in Glasgow. He’s out of work. I think that would be a pretty obvious choice, a good choice and bring a lot of positivity back to Celtic, which they need right now.”
