Zac Lomax has revealed the reason why he’s been switching between wing and centre this season.

Lomax has been named in the centres in all three games in 2025, but has spent considerable time on the wing in defence and when returning kicks.

The Eels recruit told CODE Sports that the reason behind the backline switch was to assist outside back Jordan Samrani with his introduction to first grade.

“Obviously Jordie came in and he is a centre. It was his first few games and it worked easier for him to defend at centre,” he said.

“It worked that I would defend the wing and catch kicks really.”

Lomax was selected for the Blues last season on the back of stellar form on the wing for the Dragons and carried that form into the representative arena.

Yet, due to his desire to play centre, Lomax would leave the Dragons to sign with the Eels.

With the winless Eels struggling though, Lomax says he’s willing to play wherever he’s needed most.

“I just want to win – that’s all my focus is,”Lomax said.

“Sometimes it looks like I am doing a little extra work but my teammates expect it of me and I expect it of myself.

“I am willing to do whatever it takes to win and a lot of players are in the same boat here.

“Being one of the leaders in the team, you do whatever it takes.”

Lomax was enormous as the Eels handed in their first decent performance of the season against the Dogs last weekend, racking up over 200 running metres.

STORM STAR: ‘GOOD TO GO’

Storm weapon Ryan Papenhuyzen will have to prove his fitness in a Captain’s Run on Friday, but believes he will be “good to go”.

Craig Bellamy confirmed the fullback had suffered an ankle niggle following his side’s clash with the Panthers, and general manager Frank Ponissi provided an update on Thursday.

“He did most of the session and trained well. We will see how he pulls up from it tomorrow before we make a final decision,” Ponissi said.

Papenhuyzen, meanwhile, was positive about his chances of facing the Dragons while revealing an “exclusive” development about his goalkicking.

“I did it on the weekend (against Panthers) tried to ice it, get the swelling down… I did a bit of an ATFL, they call it,” Papenhuyzen said on the One Six Seven Podcast.

“I feel like I’ll be good to go, I just don’t know if I will goal kick, that’s the only thing.

“He was confident too, he came to me and said ‘yeah, I’ll kick this week’. I said, ‘all yours brother’.”

Sua Fa’alogo will replace him in the No.1 jersey if Papenhuyzen fails to prove his fitness.

The Titans confirmed Kini will undergo surgery to repair a bulging disk early next week following specialist consultation on Thursday morning. “The club looks forward to seeing Keano return to play post the Origin period later this year.” Friday will be De Groot’s second NRL appearance after making his debut against the Knights in Round 26 of last season.
