Live AFL 2025, Melbourne Demons vs Fremantle Dockers, Round 6

Winless Melbourne aims to pick itself up off the canvas against a Fremantle side starting to hit its straps as they meet at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

The Demons have started the season 0-5 — their worst start since 2012 when they were without a win through nine games — and have lost 10 of their past 11 games dating back to late last year.

On the other hand, the visiting Dockers have righted their ship, on a three-game winning streak after starting 0-2.

Promisingly for Justin Longmuir, his side ranks first in the competition for half-back to score rate (23 per cent); which is highly important, as four of the past six premiers have finished first in the metric.

It doesn’t bode well for the Demons, who are presently the league’s second-worst for preventing scores once the ball goes in their defensive 50.

Making their task all the more difficult, Simon Goodwin’s men are without star defensive tandem Steven May and Jake Lever due to injury.

Goodwin and his match committee made a telling statement at selection on Thursday, dropping household forwards Bayley Fritsch and Jacob van Rooyen amid the team’s scoring issues.
