Live updates: Iran state media confirms Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead after US-Israel attack
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed, state media has confirmed.
US President Donald Trump earlier declared that the Ayatollah died in coordinated US-Israeli military strikes on Iran, calling him “one of the most evil people in History.”
He issued a chilling warning to the nation, stating if Iran retaliates, “we will hit them with a force that has never been seen before!”
Now, the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has vowed revenge, stating it is his country’s “duty and legitimate right”.
Earlier, the Israel PM stated there are “signs” the “tyrant” had been hit during a “pre-emptive” daylight attack that has so far claimed more than 200 lives.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Defence Force has published the names of seven senior regime leaders who were killed.
Numerous explosions have been heard in cities across Iran including in Tehran, where the office of the supreme leader and the presidential office were reportedly targeted.
The Israeli military said its strikes on Iran, with the help of President Donald Trump, targeted dozens of military sites and followed months of joint planning between the allies.
The Islamic republic has responded and targeted US military bases across the Middle East and Israel in retaliatory strikes.
Blasts were heard in the UAE, Qatar, Dubai and Bahrain, where video shows the moment a missile struck a US Navy base.
