Shooting victim Edith Brutman has been remembered for her love, loyalty and devotion at a funeral service at Rookwood Cemetery.

“Edith is the 10th funeral since Wednesday of the holy martyrs that we lost in such a tragic and horrific fashion,” the rabbi conducting the service said.

The rabbi said he had known Brutman for nearly two decades, and it was “truly difficult for me to imagine she isn’t here”.

“Edith wasn’t just a part of our lives, she was a very, very vocal part of our lives. But her love, her loyalty, her devotion, was really unique in every way.”

There was a ripple of laughter as the rabbi said Brutman would have wanted to know who had come to her funeral service.

“Edith was … it is very difficult for me to say Edith ‘was’ … a person who did everything in a very full way. She wanted to be charitable in every way.”

Brutman attended the Chanukah By the Sea event at Bondi Beach, where she was killed on Sunday night.

Earlier this week she was remembered as a “gracious”, “devoted”, and “passionate” member of the Jewish community.
