Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs) puts his WBO and WBA junior middleweight world titles on the line, having unified the belts in January with a win over Abass Baraou.

At just 23, he became boxing’s youngest unified champion and the first Puerto Rican to achieve unified status at 154 pounds.

Across the ring, Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) has his sights set on history of his own – aiming to become a two-weight unified champion in only his second fight in the division.

The Philadelphia star, 28, destroyed Uisma Lima inside the first round in his first bout at middleweight to claim the interim WBA title, making a clear statement to the division.

FORM AND HISTORY

At just 23, Xander Zayas heads into his ninth fight in New York riding a wave of momentum.

The Puerto Rican star has enjoyed plenty of success in the Big Apple, most notably capturing his first world title there when he defeated Jorge Garcia Perez for the WBO junior middleweight crown at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in July 2025.

That set up the opportunity to unify the weight in January thanks to a split decision victory over Abass Baraou in a thrilling bout in San Juan.

For Philliphelia’s Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis it is all about making further history as he fights in New York for the first time.

A destructive beating of Eimantas Stanionis in April 2025 saw him unify the welterweight division as he added the WBA strap to his IBF title.

Boots, who will turn 29 the day before his fight with Zayas, is now looking to become a two-weight unified champion and has already sent a powerful message to the middleweight division.

In his first fight at the weight in October 2025, Ennis put down Uismas Lima twice in the first round to secure an early TKO victory.

WHAT’S BEEN SAID?

Ennis has made it clear he believes he can end the fight early, warning that Zayas may be in over his head against a fighter of his calibre.

“I can go in there in the first round and get him out of there and we’re not going to be able to see nothing from him,” Ennis said.

The Philadelphia star has also questioned whether the young champ knows what he’s getting himself into.

“I think Xander bit off way more than he can chew. Come fight night, he’ll see,” he said.

“I’m going to show everyone that I’m the best in the world.

“You can watch my fights, but when you get in the ring, it’s a whole different story.”

Zayas, meanwhile, insists he is unfazed by Ennis’ reputation.

“He breathes the same oxygen I breathe. Bleeds the same way I bleed. There’s no difference between him and me,” Zayas told BoxingScene.

“I’m not afraid of anybody. The only man I’m scared of is the man upstairs. There’s no one else fear.

“Anybody else, they’re going to have to hustle with me.”
