What a totally different scene as the siren sounds for half-time!

The Cats fans are up and about, their team is too.

Geelong kicked 6.5 to 1.6 in that quarter, and they are somehow, inexplicably, within 10 points at the long break.

There is no breeze helping the City End where almost all the goals have been kicked. But Geelong have been winning the clearances, flooding the inside 50s and kicking the goals.

Suddenly the Lions are very much in need of the break and a reset.

I’m almost scared to predict what happens after half-time.

Lachie Neale is back on the ground

Good news for Brisbane – Lachie Neale has passed his HIA and he is back on the ground.

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 8:38pm

Jack Martin has his second for Geelong

The Cats are not having that goal from Brisbane!

They lift the intensity and surge the ball inside 50, where Jack Martin kicks his second of the match (and the quarter).

It’s back to 14 points!

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 8:35pm

Kai Lohmann kicks a vital goal for Brisbane

Well, it’s not a newsflash to say that was much needed for the Lions!

They hacked the ball forward, Sam Draper gave a quick tap to a teammate from the ground, it went to Logan Morris in the pocket, and he kicked across 50 to Kai Lohmann.

Lohmann marked 20m out and kicked the goal!

That’s their first of the quarter.

Momentum totally changed at Kardinia

Since quarter time the momentum has been totally one way – the OTHER way to the way it was going in the opening term.

Geelong now has nearly double the inside 50s of Brisbane, 28 to 16. And they are making the advantage count.

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 8:28pm

Jack Martin kicks a goal as Geelong closes in!

What is happening here?

The Cats are coming and they are kicking goals from everywhere!

Jack Martin has kicked Geelong’s fourth of the quarter.

The lead is down to 12 points! It’s not like there is a howling gale going to one end. This is scarcely believable.

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 8:25pm

Shannon Neale rolls through another goal for the Cats

Geelong are the ones taking toll of turnovers right now.

They won the ball off half-back, kicked long to the wing, then Shannon Neale kicked it from about 80m, it bounced and rolled and rolled, and Jeremy Cameron shepherded it through!

The lead is back to 18 points!

Brisbane’s Lachie Neale has to go off for a HIA

Big moment here at Kardinia Park, with the game being stopped to make Lachie Neale go off for a HIA.

He’s been out there for a few minutes looking not great after copping a knee to the back of the head in a centre contest.

If he is ruled out that will be a big blow to the visitors.

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 8:18pm

Shannon Neale and Patrick Dangerfield get Cats going in second quarter

Geelong have been much more Geelong-like in the second term, but a string of misses and rushed behinds added to the frustration.

But first Shannon Neale converted a set shot, to a big roar from the crowd.

And then Patrick Dangerfield kicked a beauty.

The margin is suddenly back to 22 points!

QT: Brisbane 8.0 (48) leads Geelong 1.5 (11)

The siren sounds and there is a decided lack of noise coming from the stands at Kardinia Park!

A late goal from Kai Lohmann – who took a sliding mark while surrounded by four Geelong players – made it eight for the quarter!

This has been some performance by the Lions.

Geelong hasn’t helped, with a string of errors. At least Patrick Dangerfield kicked a goal right before the siren.

But there’s only been one team in it so far.

A tale of forward entries (and conversion)

We’re near the end of the first quarter, and Geelong has had 11 inside 50s to Brisbane’s nine.

However the Cats are yet to kick a goal, and Brisbane has seven.

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 7:53pm

Magnificent seven for the Lions!

It’s not pretty on a damp night at Kardinia, but the Lions are all but unstoppable here!

They get it forward it lands with Logan Morris, and he kicks from 35, and it flies through the middle!

That is seven goals to Brisbane, none for Geelong, and we are just about to enter time on!

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 7:50pm

Geelong miss another chance

That waas better from Geelong, they got the ball inside the arc and Shannon Neale had the set shot.

But his kick drifts late and hits the post! Just three behinds for the Cats so far.

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 7:48pm

Lions on the prowl in Geelong

It’s happening again!

The Lions get the ball, they don’t worry about hanging around and get the ball to Zac Bailey again, and he snaps his second in a bit over 60 seconds.

It’s six!! Brisbane leads by 34 points.

No wonder Chris Scott looks a little non-plussed in the Geelong box.

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 7:46pm

Zac Bailey joins the party at Kardinia!

This is quite an incredible start here! The Lions are in everything, pouncing on Geelong errors.

They get the ball and rush it to the edge of 50, a chip over the top to Zac Bailey in the pocket.

And he nails the kick from a difficult angle!

We’re not halfway through the quarter, and the Lions have five goals to none.

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 7:44pm

Levi Ashcroft has another for the visitors!

I don’t know that the Lions believe how good this start is!

I know the Cats fans don’t want to believe this!

A poor clearing kick from Connor O’Sullivan is chopped off by Levi Ashcroft.

The young Lion slots it, and that is four goals without reply!

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 7:41pm

Logan Morris extends Brisbane’s lead

So what’s the problem with travelling to Geelong?

Nothing if you’re the Lions.

They get it again, Eric Hipwood to Josh Dunkley to Logan Morris inside 50.

Morris marks on the left side, and he steers it through!

Five or six minutes in, the Lions have three unanswered goals!

Thu 2 Jul 2026 at 7:39pm

Another miss for the Cats

It’s a fast game early at Kardinia!

The Cats wrestle the ball free and go inside 50, but Shannon Neale’s snap misses.

It’s 2.0 to 0.2.
